The Simi Valley Town Center opened Oct. 27, 2005, with high expectations amid a then-booming economy, providing the city with a significant new source of sales tax revenue. The 612,000-square-foot, open-air shopping center had been in the works for some 20 years. At the time, Simi Valley projected the mall would generate $2.5 million in annual sales taxes and provide 1,200 jobs.
